PASSENGERS

SALOON REGULATIONS

234. The Commander and all Officers normally will mess in the First (or Forward) Saloon in passenger ships, and in the Saloon in cargo ships. Where possible a separate table is to be provided for Cadets.
Officers going on, or coming off, Watch who may find it inconvenient to fit in with the Saloon meal hours may mess in the Duty Officers Mess.
All employees must be properly dressed whilst messing in the Saloon.
Only in exceptional circumstances are meals for employees to be served in their cabins.

235. One Officer will be detailed each day to mess in the Second Class, Tourist or After Saloon. The Commander should do so from time to time, when convenient.

236. Bar hours at sea will be specified in separate instructions issued by the Company.
The Commander will, however, have the discretion to vary these hours on Dance nights or other functions as he considers necessary.

237. The Bar will remain closed and no liquor or spirits will be dispensed at ports where local regulations prohibit it.

238. All reasonable efforts must be made to provide vegetarian or special diet as may be required by Saloon passengers on health or religious grounds.

PASSENGERS

SALOON PASSENGERS
(First, Cabin, Second, and Tourist Class)

239. The following routine is to be observed at the time of embarkation of Saloon passengers: -

(a)

The Chief Steward will be in attendance at the most convenient point for assisting passengers and generally supervising the Saloon Crew.

(b)

The Saloon Crew will be mustered, correctly dressed, to meet passengers on embarkation and assist them in carrying hand baggages, etc., to their cabins.

(c)

 Passengers are not to be delayed on embarkation by requests for their passage tickets which should he collected later.

(d)

The Purser Staff is to be in attendance in the Bureau to answer enquiries from passengers.

PASSENGERS

THIRD CLASS PASSENGERS
(Bunked and Unberthed)

240. Every assistance is to be given to Third Class passengers at the time of embarkation and in directing them to their accommodation.

241. Care must be taken to ensure that the baggage of Third Class passengers is properly stowed in the unberthed spaces/bunked compartments and to avoid any undue congestion of the passageways.

242. Third Class passengers are not allowed access to Saloon spaces and decks.

243. The fire patrol men are to be instructed not to interfere with Third Class passengers but to report immediately to the Officer of the Watch anything that may cause damage to the vessel or its fittings.
