The division of
subjects into annual sections is intended to give, in a general way, the
items upon which instruction should be concentrated in any one year.
Questions may be set in the annual test papers on any one of these items
but a knowledge of the work of previous years will also be assumed.
The fourth year syllabuses
are designed as a guide to study during the year preceding the
examination for the Second Mate's certificate.
Whenever an opportunity
offers cadets should make a practice of sketching the various parts or
items of their ship's equipment.
